It is a medium for blessing and bringing good fortune rooted in traditional Chinese culture, not merely a decorative item. Its core purpose is to carry wishes and bind blessings through dedicated ribbons, connecting the positive energy of heaven and earth with one’s own energy field. With sincerity, one sends a wish and conveys blessings through the ribbon, praying for peace and smoothness for oneself and family, and empowering the matters one seeks to achieve.

Based on the principles of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, aligned with the traditional cultural concept of ‘harmony between heaven and humanity,’ it integrates the divination wisdom of the I Ching with folk blessing practices, following the core concept of ‘ribbons carry wishes, cords tie blessings’—the ribbon symbolizes connection and protection. The process of writing a wish is a process of gathering sincere intention, and tying the ribbon in an auspicious position can stabilize one’s energy field, attract positive blessings, and help the wish come to fruition.

It originated as an extension of the ancient practice of ‘recording events with knots,’ where the ancients conveyed expectations and intentions through tied cords, gradually evolving into the prototype of ribbon blessings. Over millennia of tradition, it evolved from an exclusive courtly blessing ritual of the nobility to a practical medium for ordinary people to express wishes and safeguard blessings.

Taoism holds that ‘the universe is my mind,’ and any interaction between humans and deities requires a token for communication. Ribbons are called ‘red cords’ or ‘magic cords,’ representing a bridge to convey the devotee’s wishes to the deities. Tying a ribbon symbolizes ‘locking in blessings,’ securing the divine protection onto the wish-seeker so that it does not disperse.
